The quickest, easiest and most intuitive GoPro buyer's guide

Congratulations! The choices you made in our GoPro Buyer’s Guide led you to the GoPro HERO. Even though there is no “4” in its name, this camera belongs to the current lineup (end of 2014).

The GoPro HERO is the entry-level model, so it’s very easy to use, and with a price tag of just $129 it’s extremely inexpensive. Of course, it has some limitations:

  • The battery is built in, so when it’s empty, you cannot just pop in a fresh one. Instead you have to attach the camera to a  charger and wait before making any more pictures or videos.
  • The camera has no wireless capabilities, so you cannot use an external LCD back or an app for you phone. So there is no way to have to properly frame and review your images and videos — you’ll just have to guess where the image borders are.

But make no mistake, this cam is still capable of making great images and stunning movies in HD quality. It also boasts SuperView and Auto Low Light, two very desirable features.
