In our GoPro Buyer’s Guide we no longer recommend the GoPro Hero3 Silver. That’s because for about $50 more you can get the newer GoPro Hero3+ silver edition which is smaller, variable FOV, better battery life, better low-light performance and slow-motion video in HD quality.
This cam is already two generations old, but it’s also one of the cheapest ways to enter the GoPro world. You’ll have to buy it used, but you’ll still get decent photo and video capabilities, replaceable batteries and Wi-Fi connectivity, so you’ll be able to use your phone to frame and review your captures.
The last two features are very welcome and are an advantage over the GoPro Hero, the cheap-and-simple camera in the current GoPro lineup (which is a great cam nonetheless!).
Want to purchase a Hero3 silver anyway?
